The 2025 FSS 4 & 5 ALES soaring contests, hosted by the Pompano Hill Flyers, are currently scheduled for Saturday, March 15th and Sunday, March 16th at the Orlando Buzzards' Fort Christmas field. The entry fee will be $15 per pilot per day. On Saturday the group draw will be finalized and scorecards printed at 9:30, and the pilot meeting will begin at 9:45. On Sunday the group draw will be finalized and scorecards printed at 8:30, and the pilot meeting will begin at 8:45. The rules are the same as our past ALES contests at Fort Christmas. If you're not familiar with them then please read them now so that we won't have to go over them at the pilot meeting. They're intended to conform to the AMA Radio Control Soaring Rules.The RulesGeneral The task time for all rounds will be 8 minutes. Altitude limiters will be set to 150 meters for all rounds. There will be a maximum of eight rounds each day with a dropped round only if we fly all eight rounds. (AMA Rule 6.4.3) Each day's contest will become official when 3 rounds have been completed. (Rule 7.1.1) Variometers, altimeters, and other telemetry sensors are allowed (Rule 2.10.1) but flight stabilization systems are not allowed (Rule 2.10.2). Field boundaries and safety zones will be outlined at the pilot meeting if necessary. As usual at the Fort Christmas field, the area near the house at the southwest corner of the field will be a no-fly zone.
